Akiles is a contemporary dancer-choreographer from Iraq living in Berlin since 2014. His current work is a projection of his research on spiritual contemporary dance of which the 1st Lab “we have to turn on the light!” was performed in Beirut in 2013. His 2nd lab was his premiere in Berlin: a 6-minute presentation of “The Parallel side of the Road” in Ada Studio. Akiles participated in the Tanztage 2017 showing the full version of The Parallel side of the Road in Sophiensaele Berlin. His last performance was a work in progress also related to his research under the title of The Pain…The Pursuit… performed as part of the Weltoffenes Berlin fellowship program lead by Uferstudios in Studio 6. Additionnally, Akiles performed in other projects including Herr. und Frau Stift part of the Carte Blanche contemporary cabaret under the Ausufern project umbrella by Uferstudios, the project is initiated by Jofe D’mahl, and the EGO document in K Salon in collaboration with Collectif K-LI-P Berlin addressing experiences of people with migration background. Akiles started his career in Syria performing part of local dance companies at the Damascus Opera House, the Roman amphitheater of Busra Asham/Syria, in addition to shows in Bahrain and Qatar.
